Alterface presents at attractionsTECH during ISE 2019
How AI enhanced storytelling shapes the future of interactive rides
Wavre, Belgium, 30 January 2018 – During Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) in Amsterdam, Alterface will be speaking at the attractionsTECH conference on 8 February in the Okura Hotel. Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) is the largest trade show for the professional AV and electronic systems industry, with yearly around 80.000 visitors. AttrractionsTECH is a half day conference organized by industry authority blooloop, addressing this growing market segment. An impressive list of expert speakers from across the industry will provide a fascinating look into the future of technology for visitor attractions in theme parks and leisure venues.
Laurence Beckers, Creative Director at Alterface, will present how smart technologies can enhance storytelling and visitor experiences in theme park attractions. With over 18 years of experience in creative industries, she works at the intersection of art, science and technology. Laurence drives the Alterface Creative Division in creating successful turnkey projects like the multiple awarded Bazilyszek in Legendia, Poland, and the new non-linear Popcorn Revenge® ride in Walibi Belgium.
Alterface is a pioneer and market leader in interactive technologies and media-based attractions for theme parks. Headquartered in Wavre, Belgium, the company has inter-activated since 2001 around 300 dark rides, walkthroughs and flying theatres across the globe. Alterface constantly innovates and is now launching the first non-linear Erratic® Ride, a ground-breaking concept which customizes the visitor experience to an unseen level.
Charles Read, Managing Director of blooloop, comments: “A key development in the attractions industry has seen many theme parks and visitor attractions utilize sophisticated technologies to make their rides and attractions even more engaging and memorable for the visitor. This conference represents a great opportunity to hear from the operators and tech companies helping transform this business.”
Creativity and technology for magical & immersive guest experiences
Laurence Beckers will be speaking about two important elements in interactive attractions she is very familiar with: creativity and technology. The right balance between both will result in magical guest experiences. Creativity involves a great deal of storytelling, which can be enhanced with intelligent technology to make the story more engaging. Interactive technology drives the gameplay, video projections and connects digital and physical elements. Nowadays Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning and Extended Reality (XR) are offering great new opportunities and impact the industry. VR is immersing people into a completely virtual environment; AR is creating an overlay of virtual content but can’t interact with the environment; MR is a mixed of virtual reality and the reality, it creates virtual objects that can interact with the actual environment. XR brings all three Reality (AR, VR, MR) together under one term, and is the most interesting for immersive and interactive rides.
Laurence explains: “There is currently a vast offering of digital media entertainment, from entry level to highly sophisticated games. An interactive dark ride in a theme park should address young and old, so everyone has to understand the game dynamics very intuitively. Yet we need competitive elements for those seeking to excel. Not only does the technology drive this process, but also the storyline. Characters should emotionally appeal to the visitors and the story should be easy to grasp, yet offer enough challenge and engagement.”
Not an easy task but Alterface can assess what will work best in which environment for which audience. The best proof is in the many successful and awarded attractions the company built on worldwide level. “The greatest satisfaction comes from our happy customers,” says Benoit Cornet, CEO & Founder of Alterface. “The recent flood of awards for the Bazyliszek family ride in Legendia, Poland, are a great recognition for the team’s hard work over the past years!”
As TEA Board member Benoit Cornet realizes the importance of a healthy industry dynamic, and therefore is pleased to participate in interesting initiatives like the blooloop attractionsTECH conference during ISE. “As an industry it’s important not to get locked up in your own box but to make connections with other markets. This industrial cross-fertilization can spur innovation and inspiration, exploring new opportunities and viewing different perspectives.” concludes Benoit Cornet.
